Hmmmmm...*hand on jaw, thinking deep*....i would had gladly chosen, FOR HIM TO BE GLORIFIED THROUGH ME, but my inner voice is saying; BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO MISS HEAVEN!
i know! i know! i know!...you or any commenter would begin the 'talk' but truthfully speaking, IF THERE IS NO HELL FIRE & HEAVEN, WOULD PEOPLE WORSHIP GOD?...frankly speaking, i have a relationship with HIM, which is strictly btw both of us, & he understands me better than i understand myself...i can be morally upright, but not be a xtain...so i have come to a phase, where i boldly say, I SIMPLY LOVE HIM period! & would want to be with him when the world ends.
For Christ to be glorified through me, I pray that he changes me daily to take on his characteristics and that I will be happy to serve others without hesitation, that's my main goal in living for him. I just pray I improve each day.
@nitty,
One thing i love about you is that you are always honest with how you feel, that is rare.
I feel that there is some truth to what you are saying because you raised up the question: "would ppl be Christians if not for hell?" I think that when was younger and did not fully comprehend what it meant to live for Christ, my answer would have been that i am a Christian b/c i don't want to go to hell(which is still all about me and not about glorifying Christ).
@nitty, please never stop being honest, it challenges my believes(and others) and i LOVE to be challenged.
@kimvan...I pray the same prayer for myself as well. Amen.
I agree that pain, need and desperation has driven many, including myself to the cross.
We first see God as benevolent and a deliverer But somewhere along the line, with God's help, we began to change through reading and understanding of His words. We began to genuinely fall in love with Him such that heaven or hell is no longer the issue but being with Him.
When I think about it, what did the Apostles see or know that made them lay their lives down just to be with God? They were boiled in oil, stoned, crucified and all manner of torture. Surely, it wasn't just because they were desperate not to miss heaven?
May we see what they saw, know what they know so that no matter what, our heart and soul will pant after the Lord.
Thanks for the question. It made me reflect deeply.
@maid...ahhh thank you for your response. This is what i began to say. This question is something that i think i will have to keeping asking myself about for every situation in life so that i will not be able to pretend something is about Christ, when it's actually all about me.
That's a great question. I pray and hope that I am living for God and that He is getting glorified thru my life.....but sometimes our flesh wants us to serve God so that we can be "bigged up" and made greater....Hhhmmm it's a question that causes one to reflect...
@gg..yes this question caused to me reflect as well.
