Children are not born racist.

Unfortunately, over time; they become infected by the ignorant statements uttered by adults.

We complain about racial discrimination but Africans have serious issues with 'shadeism'

I recall a friend telling me that her in-laws should be grateful because she has given them 'fair children!'

I cannot count the number of times I have heard an 'educated Nigerian' describe a girl as beautiful simply because she is 'fair' or 'light complexioned'

It is no wonder that quite a number of young girls with dark skin and kinky hair end up with self-esteem issues.

Will it change anytime soon? ......Not with the amount of bleaching I see around me.

@naijamum...Africans VERY much suffer from this. They like to pretend they don't though.
It's interesting how people claim to love their skin tone yet speak negatively of people with the same skin-tone...what does that really say?

Well, I think black ladies are the most beautiful in the whole world.

@naijamum,

I think things are changing, check out the natural hair movement. I like what @ilola said in a blog post of her's as to why she is natural. What is at the root of a females feeling like she can never wear the hair God gave her. There is nothing wrong with having different weaves and relaxers but my question is why do females feel that they HAVE too in order feel/look beautiful. As i see more and more women falling in love with the hair God gave them, i am hopeful that the next issue that will be tackled is skin color.

I have had my own journey to loving everything about myself, maybe one day i will share.

@ilola..
in your own words:"why are we so eager to fix the hair that the Asians and Brazilians cut off and can't wait to crucify those that have chosen to go the African way? Why are we so eager to pour relaxer on our kids’ hair, such that they do not really know what a true African hair looks like? If we would really take time to consider, we will realize that the Black African hair is really unique. When unrelaxed, it has lovely spring like curls that no other race can boast of. "

ChizzyD...well after reading your post, i'm sure you do. I myself think that it is beautiful to see all women loving the way God made her.

But you are correct black women have been spending too much time trying to look eurocentric(which they will never) that their very beautiful afrocentric beauty is covered.

Its sad that shadeism is something that alots of Africans struggle with....I think Black is absolutely BeautiFULL...Being a super super light skined lady i can honestly say there have been times that I wish i was darker especially being born into a family where everyone but myself is dark.

BLACK IS STRONG & BEAUTIFUL!

COLONIAL MENTALITY IS OUR PROBLEM!

WE HAVE BEEN SO BRAINWASHED & THE MEDIA & FASHION INDUSTRY IS NOT HELPING MATTERS AT O!

ANY WOMAN THAT IS FAIR AUTOMATICALLY BELIEVES SHE IS EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL!

p.s...i tried to vote, it's telling me to sign in..but i can't...i ticked 'simple lifestyle stuff' & the vid was damn too slow as usual in 9ja where the connection is bad...i couldn't finish watching them, but got the jist, it is on this basis i commented.

That first video made me so sad, imaging children less than seven or so and they're already affected.

Hi Chizzy, please I need your help. I want to create new pages just like you did. Although, I know how to create the pages, I don't know how link some old posts on a new page, is that going to be possible? If yes, how?
Also, how do I go about putting the 'Contact me' and 'About me' pages? Please help a fellow blogger in need (sad face). I hope to get your relp soon. Thanks

Chizzy,
You have touched on a very sensitive subject and what I call a generational disease. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, ignorance is the fruit of foolishness - spiritual darkness.

One of the ways I believe we can help eradicate this disease is to leave a legacy that will outlast the next generations to come by being the example. Bringing up the younger ones with the fear of the Lord to be confident, secured young beautiful women and men knowing who they are in Christ and knowing how fearlfully and wonderfully they are made and created by their heavenly Father.

I just love your articles sis, always thought provoking and such a blessing.
God bless you,
Enyonam

Chizzy, thanks so much for the help. I have added the Contact me page as you directed. I thought I was going to be able to link old posts to new pages cos I was too lazy to copy and paste. I guess I will have to do what I was running from. Thanks once again
