The winners and me speaking on video (last post!!!)

Good day all,
Thank you to everyone that participated and left feedback. I absolutely appreciate it.
So the winners are:
Runner up winner: Honeydame
and the first place winner is:.....Destiny - Yankeenaijachick + Success(yep you defiantly keep adding to your name...lol)
Please email me Destiny - Yankeenaijachick + Success and  honeydame. My email address is earthichick@gmail.com

I've come to realize that just like TV, I was wasting alot of my time online, sooo i have come to the conclusion that i need to LIVE life, life is too short for me to devote even a quarter of it to being online. If i ever return, it will probably be in terms of audio or video.
So i leave you all with three vids, the first is a spoken word poem that i wrote myself. The second is a vid i watched today that touched me dearly. The third is a song that i heard in october in a funeral.

First vid: Chizzy D last words on chizzyd.com plus spoken word

Second vid: This brought me to tears

The third vid: In Christ Alone(All other ground is sinking Sand!!!!)

My favorite part was:
In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone! who took on flesh
Fulness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied -
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave he rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine -
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath.
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.
May we be his and he me ours, Amen!
Love, Chizzy ;D

The time has come to say Goodbye PLUS Giveaways

Good day all,
For awhile now, i have come to this realization but did not want to accept it. This blog will be ending before the year runs out. As many of you know, my life has changed drastically and because of that I no longer have the time, energy, or even passion for blogging that i used to. I am such a different person since starting this blog. I have grown so much from blogging and reading other people's blog and  I am extremely grateful that God allowed me to connect with some very special people on here. I have never been much of a writer(still hate writing), but i truly love the community and that is what kept me blogging now for over 3 years. I will absolutely miss this community. Once in awhile, i will defiantly check out what is going on in the lives of my favorite bloggers.

3 last things i plan on doing with this blog:
1. Have a giveaway(i promised awhile ago, and i'm sorta kinda a woman of my word).
2. Meet and hang out with the blogger that lives close to me(you know who you are lol.)
3. Blog one last time.

So about the giveaway:  There will be two prices for two different winners.

Prize #1: Brand new red vintage looking dress, size: Medium from lulu.com. Price: $43.00.

Prize #2: $10 gift certificate to Target (why target you say, because i like target better that i like walmart and those two store are everywhere including online.)
I like this gift card cause of the gal's hair...lol.

Warning, this part is a bit selfish, but i'm doing it because i would really like feedback on my blog. Basically i would really appreciate it if you left a comment telling me: "what attracted you to my blog, what kept you coming back to my blog and what you would have liked for me to blog about, why do you think i only have 56 subscribers?" Basically serious feedback of any sort.
So the person that provides the most detailed response to my question(in my opinion) will be the winner and will choose which gift they would like. The person with the second most detailed answer wins the second prize. Please be honest, don't feel like you have to say nice things, just be honest.

If you do not want any of these prizes, i would still appreciate feedback.  I'm doing this because i believe in learning something from every experience.

The contest ends on friday 12/9/2011 at 11:59pm mountain time.

A post that I couldn't write without shedding joyful tears!

Hi blogger fam,

I started this blog last november. To read my first real post(clickhere) and see where i am today, all i can do is shout in amazement of my God and how all along he had a VERY PERFECT plan for me, all i had to do was trust in him.
So, last i posted i was planning on moving to Colorado and i had a interview there before my planned moved.  Fast foward to today. I AM in Colorado(it took me three day of travel by car to get here), i have a very cute apartment, a 70 year old lady that I had never met before took me under her wings, hosted me in her home till i found my own place, cooked for me, showed me around, and helped me move into my apartment buying me some food, cleaning and kitchen supplies, and invited me to her church and yoga exercise classes. Oh and let me me not forget the biggest blessing, the EXACT day i planned on moving, the company i interviewed with called me to offer me the job!!!!!!!!

This is something that i have been praying about for over a year now. And blogger fam, out of all the positions i applied or interviewed for, this one IS the best. This position is something that entry level people in my field NEVER get until about ten years of working. Not just that, it's in a state and city that i absolutely desired to live in. HOW AMAZING IS MY GOD!!!!!!!!

I have been reflecting on this last year and how it was soo uncertain and how at times it made me really sad, mad, angry, depressed, grateful, emotional. I feel that God was trying to teach me MANY different things during that period and he was very successful. I, Chizzy D, have no power,  my WORKS have no power. All power belongs to GOD, he is the only one in control, so it only makes sense to surrender to him.
If you are going through a similar period in life, use the time to seek what God is trying to teach you.  Regardless of the outcome, God is in control and he knows the plans he has for you even if you don't.

Thank you soo much blogger fam for your prayers and encouragement. Please pray that God continues to bring amazing ppl in my life, that i find a great church family, that i'm protected by him at all times, and that i transition properly to a professional job.

Have a blessed day. Chizzy D

I'm going to Colorado In October

I'll be rocking a similar look for my interview
(locks and all, but no jean jacket)
Good day all,
I wanted to drop by to say that i am planning on moving to Colorado in October sometime. Next month is sooo uncertain. First i am flying to Colorado for a face-to-face interview(i'm not paying a penny for the trip). As much as i hope i get the job, even if i don't, i still plan on moving in October. By the time i quit my current job, i would have raised the certain larger amount of money i truly need to move to Colorado. If i don't move next month, i wouldn't be able to move until spring 2012 because of weather concerns(i'm basically moving to the other part of the country), so ya. As i said so much is uncertain. I have no idea where i will live, if i will be able to find work, and i don't know a single soul in that state, but since Christ is on my side, i'm pushing all my fears unto him.

Please pray for me blogger fam, this is the biggest decision(besides giving my life to Christ) that i have ever made.

Update: Exciting things are happening!!

Good day all,
My personal style has drastically changed from SUPER earthy boho to this lol!!
I know its been a looooong while. Thank you to everyone that wrote to me concerned, it made me feel really special :) Alot is basically happening in my life and i have also spent the last two months planning for my next life move.  So i posted awhile ago about wanting to move to Colorado. Well when i posted that i think i had about $25 to my name and no real job, so i got to work planning. I continued to apply for work(online) in that location and have been interviewing with no success since. I created a plan A, plan B, and a plan C and i am totally determined. Basically i need to raise a certain(large) amount of money if i want to move there without a job first.

What i am currently doing

  • I work around 55 hours doing the week at a job that i absolutely dislike, but i am grateful for it because it is helping me raise the certain(large) amount of money i need in order to move.
  • I started taking my online accessories shop seriously and sales are finally coming in(yay). I have some pretty awesome ideas for things to make and sell on my online store, i just need to create the time to invest in it.
  • To check out my online store, click on this link------>  http://www.earthichick.etsy.com
  • OK, exciting news!!!! during work everyday, i have about 30 minutes to work on something i am pretty passionate about. I been wanting to create this for the longest time and i finally did and am happy with the way things are coming along. Please please check it out and subscribe if you are interested, i need all the support i can get.
  • To check out my new project, click on this link----> www.lockintolocks.com
  • I'm thinking of doing my first giveaway on this blog, stay tuned.
  • I hope everyone is well, I will be checking out my favorite blogs in the next couple of days.

Ipad vs. Kindle..Which should i pick?

 Good day all,

So i'm thinking of getting a digital reading device. The two choices are the Amazon Kindle and the Apple Ipad. I am currently weighing my options. I'm really not sure which one to get. I went to the apple store the other day to buy a new charger for my Macbook, while i was there i spent some time looking at the Ipad. I think the Ipad is cool, but since i have a Macbook i really don't understand buying an ipad. I really need to have a reason before making such a purchase.

Anyways, i know alot bloggers are digital readers(or maybe not) and i would like some advice. Which digital device would you recommend? Which do you use or would prefer?

Question to Married and Single bloggers

 Good day all,

Today is Father's Day here in the states, so happy father's day to any father reading this(i doubt there are any fathers reading this, considering 95% of my blog followers are women, but anywho). While at church this morning, i thought about an interesting topic that i have been wanting to post about for awhile now: marriage.

 Question to my Married bloggers:
What traits do you think single women should be looking for in a man? How did you know that you found the "One?"

Question to my Single(if you are not married you fall in this category) bloggers:
What traits are you looking for in your future husband?

Please feel free to answer honestly, because i think married people can teach the single maiden alot, and singles ladies can learn from other singles.

I know where i want to move to

 Good day all,

So after much research and searching my heart. I have decided that i want to move to Colorado. Where in Colorado you say, dunno that part yet(Where ever i find work probably). I am from the south eastern part of the United States ("the South" as many refer to it ) and i have always wanted to live in the Western part of the United States. I have never been to a state west of Missouri(except California), but i've been to almost every state east of Missouri.
Now the state that i currently live in is extremely conservative(which state in the south is not? lol), i'm very used to it. People dog the south like there is no tomorrow, it will be interesting living in the anti-south=the West. I like Colorado for many reasons, one is that it seems to be a politically moderate state. Extreme conservative and extreme liberal people/places get on my nerves.

Anywho i have decided on Colorado, now i have to figure out how i am going to get there. I started last week specifically looking for jobs in my field only in Colorado. Grad school is also an option, but MAN their out-of-state tuition is NO JOKE!!!

Feel free to  post any suggestions, this blog might turn into "Moving to Colorado by Chizzy D"..lol.

Black in Latin America

Good day all,

1.) Black in Latin America: Haiti and Dominican Republic
I found this documentaries to be quite interesting. The colorism issue between the two neighboring countries is intense. Did you know Haiti was on it's way to being one of the richest Latin American countries before the U.S stepped in? Did you know that they have extremely strong ties to traditional african cultures? I truely enjoyed watching this and learned so much from it. I hope you do as well.

2.) Black in Latin America: Brazil
The Capital of Colorism= Brazil. Yep i said it. Bet you always thought this country was a country that embraced and celebrated the different mixtures of people and cultures, didn't ya? Well on the surface yes, but when you dig in closer, you realize how complex the skin color issues are in Brazil. Fascinating watch. Enjoy!

Please help me, I want to move!!!

 Good day,

Long time, so i'm going to stop saying "I'm back", because every time i say that phrase, it seems like something else comes up. So in the last month, i have work at three different companies. I am currently working one full time job right now. The problem is that the job is not in my state, so i have to TRAVEL everyday to work. I wake up really early to leave for work and i return late, after i eat, relax, and do very few errands, it's time for bed. So, this is what grown people do Monday to Friday ehh!?!? Ya, i'm not liking this kind of life at all at all. But i am grateful to have a job even though it is not in the field i studied. I will keep searching while i work this current job.

I've been thinking that very soon i am going to move. I really, really, really want to move before the end of this year. The problem is, i have no idea how to move to any of these places. For one, i don't know anyone in these places. I have been applying for work at these locations through online websites, but nothing. The places i would like to move to are:

1. Anywhere in the state of Corolado
2. Seattle, WA (or anywhere in that state)
3. Portland, OR (or anywhere in that state)
4. Alberta, Canada (or anywhere in Canada except Toronto and Quebec)
5. Anywhere in Sweden
6.  Anywhere in the Nordic countries

If you live any of these places or just have tips to help me move to any of these location, please(**i'm down on my knees***) comment with your suggestions.

Homemade Natural Hair Removal 101

Good day all,
If you haven't realized it by now, let me be the first to let you know:  I'm a homemade kinda gal
Sooooooo, today i bring you a Natural hair removal procedure that is very simple. This procedure is called Halawa and is brought to you from the Middle East.

What you need:
Brown sugar
Lemon
Saucepan
Clean cotton fabric
and Water

Instructions:

  • Take 10 tablespoons of brown sugar, the juice of half a lemon and a tablespoon of water. Then, mix all the ingredients in a small saucepan and set on the stove to heat over high heat for 20 minutes.
  • Make sure to stir the "Halawa mixture" every five minutes so it doesn't clump in the pot or burn.
  • When the "Halawa mixture" has turned into a caramel brown color, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool to a temperature that is acceptable to you. IT SHOULD be warm and have the consistency of golden syrupy honey.
  • Don't allow it to cool too much or it will go hard.
  • Take a bit of the Halawa syrup with a small spatula and evenly distribute it onto an area of your skin. To facilitate the process, you can also use strips of clean cotton fabric for the Halawa hair removal(simply lay them on top of the paste).
  • Wait a few seconds and then tear off the strips with a sudden sharp movement. Make sure that you go against the direction of the hair  growth.

Oya have fun!

Homosexuality is a Sin, but...

 Good day all,

I am a women of many verbal words, but of very few written words, soooooo i'm going get right to the point.
Last year I went to one of the biggest, international, most awesome-est(yep thats a word) Christian missions conference for college kids called Urbana. It happens every three years, and this conference does not play. The speakers are bold Paul-type people from all over the world. I LOOOOOOVe this conference. The main speakers always speak on all the things the modern Church shys away from speaking about i.e..money, homosexuality, racism, marriage, hatred..list goes on.
I can seriously go on and on about this conference and how both(2006 and 2009) times i went REALLY impacted my life, but this post is on homosexuality, so here goes.
I attended a seminar on homosexuality(there were MANY seminars on this topic) that really opened my eyes as to how God really sees it and how i also should respond. Although i have never been one to look down on homosexual people, this seminar really convicted me.

Is Homosexuality a sin?
Yes, in Romans 1:26-31 it says: For this cause God gave them up into vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet"

Is Homosexuality different from any other sin?
Nope!!!!! A sin is a sin is a sin is a sin in God's eyes.

Can you be a christian who struggles with Homosexuality?
Yes!! We were all born sinners right? Some of us struggle with lying, some with stealing, cheating, lust(homo or hetero), money loving, vanity, evil tongue<-------ME!!. Whatever it is, even after one becomes a Christian, there is still a battle between the flesh and the spirit. A battle that can and must be won, and can only be won through Christ.
Galatians 5:16-26....
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 2324 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

How do you witness to a (very open or not so very open) Homosexual person?
Same way you witness to anyone else. Because many homosexuals have a distrust of Christians, get on there level. Think about the darkest struggles that you have or are having and share with them how God has helped you over come this struggle or is helping you overcome this struggle. Ask them if they would like to learn more about the God who came to save the hopeless. Invite them to partner with you as you strive to grow closer to Christ.

The guy who taught the homosexual class is a guy that struggled with homosexuality named Christopher Yuan. I had the great opportunity to meet him and his parents. His testimony is on the Vid below:

Mint is Awesome

Good day all,
Been awhile, so i was online looking for a money/finance app for my computer so that i can keep track of my money situation when i found this pretty amazing website that's....wait for it....FREEE!!!! yessoo, this site links to your bank account, sorts out all your transactions and let you know everything in a very beautiful way. You create budgets, goals(i really love this tool), and it tell you where all your money is going without you having to tell them.

It's safe because apparently, Mint uses the same 128-bit encryption and physical security that
banks use. Their practices are monitored and verified by TRUSTe,
VeriSign and Hackersafe, and supported by RSA Security.

I think this program can only be used in the United states and Canada, but i'm not sure.

Again, i will add that i was not paid to do this, i just like sharing cool things that i find that others might find useful as well.

Happy "Jesus Rose From the Dead" day. Chizzy D

For people who don't like to read, there is a solution!

Hey guys long time,
So I came on here because (as i stated in an earlier post ) I HATE to read. I have been struggling to read some of the most interesting books i know of. I think University did this to me because growing up, i loved to read.
Anywho,
I found the solution to my problem and i am soooo excited about it. I decided to share it with everyone because there may be others like myself who have been struggling.

The solution is: Audiobooks....yeps. I think i might be the last person to really get into audiobooks. There are different websites that offer this program.

I found out audible.com is offering some kind of deal right now(from an ad on hulu.com) to get two free books and free membership for 30days. You can delete your account anytime before the 30 days and not be charged anything. So i went on there and got a book and i'm very excited about it. I plan on listening to it on my ipod touch while working out and listening to it through my computer while sewing(new hobby that i will soon post about).

Nobody told me or paid me to do this post(i wish..lol), i just kinda think this tool is totally amazing.
Oh and here is the link to get two free books---->http://www.audible.com/hulu

Be praying for blogger Kimvan, Japan and surrounding countries

In the last 12 hours, Japan was hit with a massive 8.9-magnitude earthquake (it the 5th-strongest in the world since 1900). It is reported that 32 people and counting have died. Pray that miracles happen today, that no more damage is done, that no more people die.

This is a reminder that this earth is not our home, stop treating it like it is. #Matthew 28:19-20

I'm asking you to add Japan and surrounding regions in your Prayers today. Pray for the safety of fellow blogger, Kimvan, who currently lives in Northern Japan.

My first time celebrating Lent, join me and World Vision!!!

 Good day all,

I have never celebrated Lent before, but after coming across what World Vision is doing this year, i decided to join and you can too.  While looking through the program, i realized how spiritually beneficial it would be for me to partake in the "Lent 2011: Relentless Acts of Justice" online program that World Vision has set up. I truly encourage you to check it out.

 What is lent?
According to Wikipedia-------->Lent is a time of sacrifice for Jesus. The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer — through prayer, repentance, alms giving and self-denial — for the annual commemoration during Holy Week of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events linked to the Passion of Christ and culminates in Easter, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Preview of what is being planned by World Vision:
Week 1: We will experience worthlessness through a story about microfinance by going without something physical.
Week 2: We will experience helplessness through a story about malaria by feeling vulnerable.
Week 3: We will experience carelessness through a story about HIV and AIDS by feeling ostracized.
Week 4: We will experience godlessness through a story about religious persecution by limiting our own spiritual resources.
Week 5: We will experience speechlessness through a story about sex trafficking by giving up control and ownership over our lives.
Week 6: We will experience hopelessness through a story about education by feeling forgotten.

These people are not worthless, helpless, careless, Godless, speechless and hopeless
because it’s their fault. In fact, it may just be our fault that we do not actively bring
worth, help, care, God, speech and hope to them. It is imperative that we seek to
understand their lives. Only when we see the humanity and divinity in a stranger’s eyes
can we love them as Christ calls us to love them.

May God Bless you and I with Discomfort

May God bless you with discomfort. Discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart. Amen

May God bless you with anger. Anger at injustice, oppression and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace. Amen

May God bless you with tears. Tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and turn their pain into joy. Amen

May God bless you with foolishness. Enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done. Amen

And the blessing of God, who creates, redeems and sanctifies, be upon you and all you love and pray for this day, and forever more. Amen

Coming up Sunday----> Week 1: We will experience worthlessness through a story about microfinance by going without something physical.

Have a blessed day. Chizzy D

Are you seriously willing to die for Christ? This man recently did.

Good day all,
Just last week Shahbaz Bhatti, Pakistan's Minorities Minister and sole Christian Cabinet minister was assassinated.

In the interview, Mr. Bhatti said of Pakistani Islamists:
They want to impose their radical philosophy in Pakistan and whoever stands against their radical philosophy, they threaten them. When I’m leading this campaign against the Shariah laws and for the abolishment of [the] blasphemy law and speaking for the oppressed and marginalized, persecuted Christians and other minorities, these Taliban threaten me.
But I want to share that I believe in Jesus Christ, who has given his own life for us. I know what is the meaning of [the] cross and I’m following … the cross.
I’m ready to die for a cause. I’m living for my community and suffering people and I will die to defend their rights. So these threats and these warnings cannot change my opinion and principles. I will prefer to die for my principles and for the justice of my community rather to compromise.

*****Blogger fam, these kinds of things are happening everyday. While many of the people that call themselves Christians are worried about how they can use God to glorify self, this man reminds us that its ALL about Christ being glorified. *****

While on facebook this morning one of my mentors post this quote next to this story:
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God... something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. Being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!" - Philippians 2:3-8"

Where does your weave come from: The story of 100% weaves

 Good day,
The 100% human hair weave that is on one's head, do you know it's history and the process it went through to get to the weave wearer's head? Well now you can!
Below is an educational video that documents where most of the weaves in the world comes from. It starts with women and children in India that travel to the second busiest temple in the world in order to shave their heads for religious purposes, it then covers every step from there. Enjoy! P.s. If you are unable to watch this Vid in your country and would like for me to summarize it for you, let me know.

Mental, Spiritual, physical, and Emotional goals for March and beyond

Good day all.
Like i discussed yesterday I'm making new plans for March and beyond because I want to be productive. I've decided to put it in writing.  I did similar things like this when i was in school which has been all my life(lol).

First, I plan on making a liberal plan for each day the night before. That way i have goals and and are more likely to achieve them.

Mental- Have a goal to read a book(gifted or bought that i have not read) and finish it by the end of the month. Substitute online T.V. movie time for this. At least one hour of reading(this is huge cause i haven't been a fan of physical reading in a long while now).

Spiritual- First thing in the morning(before ever opening up my computer) have morning devotion.
I am currently using solo: An uncommon devotional and it's pretty amazing, totally recommend it.

Physical- Workout at least three times a week for 1 hour. Focusing on running and exercises that increase my heart rate. Run at the very beautiful park near my home or officially join that really cool and expensive gym near my home.

Emotional- hmm i'm not sure yet. Oh i know...Work on my Chizzy D book(yep i have one, its a pretty cool personal scrapbook). Being as creative as i want, writing poems, songs, drawing things i want to sew up, just digging in the book and being creative whenever i'm feeling down.

Question: Do you make similar plans?

p.s. none of this pics were taken by me.

10 Benefits of Rising Early, and How to Do It

Good day all,
Because i am currently jobless and have almost no commitments(don't worry things are changing), in the last month, i have been going to bed very late and waking up very late(like sometimes in the afternoons). This is not a good habit what so ever and leads to an unproductive day. Anywho my goal for the month of March is to start a new habit of waking up early and going to sleep early. I saw this article from zenhabit.net that i think will be helpful to me and anyone else who needs motivation and a push. P.S. I changed a couple of things.

  1. Greet the day. I love being able to get up, and greet a wonderful new day. I suggest creating a morning ritual that includes saying thanks for your blessings. (morning devotions).
  2. Amazing start. No jumping out of bed, late as usual, and rushing to get myself together fast.  There is no better way to start off your day than to wake early, in my experience.
  3. Quietude The early morning hours are so peaceful, so quiet. It’s my favorite time of day. I truly enjoy that time of peace, that time to myself, when I can think, when I can read, when I can breathe.
  4. Sunrise. People who wake late miss one of the greatest feats of nature, repeated in full stereovision each and every day — the rise of the sun.
  5. Breakfast. Rise early and you actually have time for breakfast. I’m told it’s one of the most important meals of the day. Without breakfast, your body is running on fumes until you are so hungry at lunchtime that you eat whatever unhealthy thing you can find. The fattier and sugarier, the betterier. But eat breakfast, and you are sated until later. Plus, eating breakfast while reading my book and drinking my coffee in the quiet of the morning is eminently more enjoyable than scarfing something down on the way to work, or at your desk.
  6. Exercise. There are other times to exercise besides the early morning, of course, but I’ve found that while exercising right after work is also very enjoyable, it’s also liable to be canceled because of other things that come up. Morning exercise is virtually never canceled.
  7. Productivity. Mornings, for me at least, are the most productive time of day. I like to do some writing in the morning, when there are no distractions, before I check my email or blog stats. I get so much more done by starting on my work in the morning. Then, when evening rolls around, I have no work that I need to do, and I can spend it with family.
  8. Goal time. Got goals? Well, you should. And there’s no better time to review them and plan for them and do your goal tasks than first thing. You should have one goal that you want to accomplish this week. And every morning, you should decide what one thing you can do today to move yourself further towards that goal. And then, if possible, do that first thing in the morning.
  9. Commute. No one likes rush-hour traffic, except for Big Oil. Commute early, and the traffic is much lighter, and you get to work faster, and thus save yourself more time. Or better yet, commute by bike. (Or even better yet, work from home.)
  10. Appointments. It’s much easier to make those early appointments on time if you get up early. Showing up late for those appointments is a bad signal to the person you’re meeting. Showing up early will impress them. Plus, you get time to prepare.
How to Become an Early Riser
  • Don’t make drastic changes. Start slowly, by waking just 15-30 minutes earlier than usual. Get used to this for a few days. Then cut back another 15 minutes. Do this gradually until you get to your goal time.
  • Allow yourself to sleep earlier. You might be used to staying up late, perhaps watching TV or surfing the Internet. But if you continue this habit, while trying to get up earlier, sooner or later one is going to give. And if it is the early rising that gives, then you will crash and sleep late and have to start over. I suggest going to bed earlier, even if you don’t think you’ll sleep, and read while in bed. If you’re really tired, you just might fall asleep much sooner than you think.
  • Put your alarm clock far from you bed. If it’s right next to your bed, you’ll shut it off or hit snooze. Never hit snooze. If it’s far from your bed, you have to get up out of bed to shut it off. By then, you’re up. Now you just have to stay up.
  • Go out of the bedroom as soon as you shut off the alarm. Don’t allow yourself to rationalize going back to bed. Just force yourself to go out of the room. My habit is to stumble into the bathroom and go pee. By the time I’ve done that, and flushed the toilet and washed my hands and looked at my ugly mug in the mirror, I’m awake enough to face the day.
  • Do not rationalize. If you allow your brain to talk you out of getting up early, you’ll never do it. Don’t make getting back in bed an option.
  • Have a good reason. Set something to do early in the morning that’s important. This reason will motivate you to get up. I like to write in the morning, so that’s my reason. Also, when I’m done with that, I like to read all of your comments!
  • Make waking up early a reward. Yes, it might seem at first that you’re forcing yourself to do something hard, but if you make it pleasurable, soon you will look forward to waking up early. A good reward is to make a hot cup of coffee or tea and read a book. Other rewards might be a tasty treat for breakfast (smoothies! yum!) or watching the sunrise, or meditating. Find something that’s pleasurable for you, and allow yourself to do it as part of your morning routine.
  • Take advantage of all that extra time. Don’t wake up an hour or two early just to read your blogs, unless that’s a major goal of yours. Don’t wake up early and waste that extra time. Get a jump start on your day! I like to use that time to get a head start on preparing my kids’ lunches, on planning for the rest of the day (when I set my MITs), on exercising or meditating, and on reading. By the time 6:30 rolls around, I’ve done more than many people do the entire day.

Have a blessed day. Chizzy D
